There’s a lot of talk these days about living our life
purpose, but what does it really mean? Sometime ago I went to
a concert by Deva Premal and afterward a friend said to me,
“Wow, now there’s a person really doing her life
purpose!” He admitted he was envious and feeling inadequate
by comparison. That got me wondering. Is doing a public, influential
work really the yardstick to measure how successful we are in
fulfilling our life purpose?
Vedic astrology would say "no." In India, the word
“dharma” relates to our life purpose and the astrological
houses related to dharma are the 1st, 5th, and 9th houses.
They are associated with the fire element, and relate to what
inspires us, fuels us, and gives our live's meaning. The public,
influential houses are primarily the 10th and 11th houses.
What gives our life meaning could be as simple as working
in the garden, which was the case for my sister. Venus rules
her 9th house, rules gardening (especially flowers), and she
discovered her love of gardening in a Venus dasha.

what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because
what the world needs is people who have come alive."
- Harold Whitman
