The Value of Prashna or Horary Astrology   2/2/2006

Astrology is study of the quality of a specific moment in time as expressed by the planets. When we have a sincere question and look at the chart of the time that we ask the question it will reflect both the question and its answer. This is called Prashna in Vedic astrology or Horary in Western astrology. It's a sophisticated system in and of itself separate from natal chart analysis. In Vedic astrology prashna uses special aspects called Tajika aspects. However, even without knowing these special rules we can gain a lot just by studying the prashna chart using regular (Parashari) natal chart analysis rules. The questioner is basically represented by the 1st house and 1st lord. Whatever house applies to the question is also analyzed for instance, the 7th house and 7th lord for relationship.

A few days ago, I was giving a reading to a woman who asked whether she will get back together with her ex-husband. I looked at the prashna chart and saw that the 1st lord, Saturn, was placed in the 6th house of conflict, aspected by the 7th lord, the Sun, which symbolized her husband and was in the 12th house of loss. Saturn and the Sun are natural enemies and they aspect one closely, within two degrees. This exactly explained the situation. Her husband was distant, there was tension and conflict, and she felt stuck with little she could do to change the situation.

Prashna Chart for Jan 26, 2006

This is not an isolated example. Everytime a person has a sincere and important question the chart will reveal the situation and the answer to their question. It may only be an answer for that moment in time and the answer could be different when the question is revisited later. However, if the person is only curious, and not sincere, then the prashna chart will not be reliable.
