from Astrological Journey Through History, Mystery, and
Horoscopes, by K.N.
Rao - ch. 3
It was the multi-pronged (composite) approach which was both
the glories of my astrological research and the agony of my
failures. I, of course, persisted with the multi-pronged approach.
The approach was to examine stage by stage thus:
1) First examine the birth horoscope without any details and
form your impression.
2) Examine the dasha and antardasha running carefully.
3) Re-examine it in the navamsha, treating it as an independent
chart for all purposes.
4) Combine the birth horoscope and the navamsha into one whole
as I have shown in my book on the Nehru Dynasty,
particularly in discussing the horoscope of Indira Gandhi.
5) If and when necessary use a relevant and inter-related
divisional horoscope.
6) Watch the transits of planets on the ashtakavarga.
Eighty percent of the analysis done will rarely go wrong.
Yet some more confirmations could be sought. I prepared the
annual chart invariably those days, the Varshapal as it is
known. I made many observations, but never based my main prediction
on it. The Varshapal never goes wrong. Yet it only supplements
and highlights an unlit area of the birth horoscope.

Note from Vaughn Paul Manley
In other writings K.N. Rao defines his Composite Approach
as synthesizing multiple dasha systems like Jaimini's Chara
dasha, Yogini dasha, and conditional dashas like Mandook dasha
along with the commonly used Vimshottari Dasha system.
