This chart makes for a good quiz because there are logical reasons
for every one of the four answers. However, it's only when you
work hard on the chart, considering every aspect closely, that
it becomes clear which the right answer is.
This woman began her seven year Ketu dasha just as she was finishing
high school. Ketu is an unorthodox planet and Ketu dashas can
lead people into unusual directions, like traveling to unusual
foreign countries. As the moksha karaka or significator
of liberation, Ketu can also lead people into spiritual practices
like meditation. Ketu is an introverted planet who likes retreat,
isolation and has escapist tendencies, which can lead to drug
addiction.
In her chart, Ketu is in the 9th house and aspected by Jupiter,
the 9th lord, which can certainly indicate foreign travel. Ketu
is in the mystical sign of Pisces which is also a sign of drug
addiction and escapism.
However, the 9th house is also the house of knowledge, particularly
religious or spiritual knowledge, as well as as higher education
and educational institutions. Jupiter's aspect as the 9th lord
reinforces this, and also gives wisdom that protects against
drug addiction. Ketu is in the 5th house from the Moon, which
is the house of non-compulsory education, like College education,
making it another reinforcing factor for educational pursuits.
See the Daily
Vedic Astrology article from last November 17th for more
information on the houses of education.
The Sun and Mars also aspect Ketu and are both powerful, ambitious,
masculine planets. In the Daily
Vedic Astrology article on March 11th I quoted sage Parashara
as pointing out how Rahu and Ketu can give raja yoga
by being located in a trinal house aspected by an angular lord
or vice versa. Mars's aspect as the 10th lord onto Ketu gives
a raja yoga involving career pursuits. Mars is also the 5th
lord again reinforcing education pursuits. This raja yoga gets
repeated from chandra lagna (Moon ascendant) as the
Sun becomes the 10th lord aspecting Ketu in the 5th house. Notice
how the Sun and Mars are both aspecting from Virgo, a practical,
productive, detail oriented sign ruled by Mercury the planet
of education. From the dasha lagna (dasha lord ascendant)
in Pisces where Ketu is located, this raja yoga is again repeated
as Jupiter becomes the 10th lord aspecting Ketu in the ascendant
(a trinal house). This shows a strongly reinforced pattern of
career focus during her Ketu dasha.
In Vedic astrology, Rahu, Ketu, the Moon and Mercury are the
most impressionable planets, meaning that they take on the characteristics
of the planets that they are associated with and aspected by.
The aspects to Ketu by Jupiter, Mars, and the Sun, all masculine
planets, and associated with the 10th house from various lagnas
represent that this is a productive, focused, ambitious time
in her life where she is developing her career. The cumulative
aspects to Ketu don't represent spiritual development as much
as personal development. Also, the seclusion and isolation that
Ketu often represents was played out by living in a focused,
isolated educational environment.
Correct answer: She went straight to college and was focused
on her career.
