FDR's Chart and Birth Time Verification

His (FDR's) horoscope can be had now in 1996 for the first time
in India, it seems because of the information available about
his exact birth time. On the basis of the information available
and the material with the US Information Service in New Delhi,
the particulars given below are being used in this sketch. The
difference then will be that the lagna will change from Simha
(Leo) to Kanya (Virgo). First see the horoscope and then let
us see some salient points.

Jupiter ends on Feb 20, 1906
Saturn ends on Feb 20, 1925

Lagna
The first point of dispute about the horoscope
will be whether it was Leo lagna, which Dr. B.V. Raman used
in his book, Notable Horoscopes. The time of birth
used in horoscope no. 47 by Dr. Raman is 8 pm while what we
have from the American Information Service is 8:45 pm, which
gives Virgo lagna at 1 degree 30 minutes. This degree is heading
towards mrityubhaga*(see below). Roosevelt was something
of a half-invalid president with an attack of polio in 1921
in the difficult Saturn mahadasha and Rahu antardasha. Saturn
in the 8th house explains the ailment, which the president,
best known as FDR, never overcame (8th house represents chronic
illness). The lagna lord Mercury in the 6th house confirms this.
The 8th lord Mars aspects the lagna as though to confirm it
further.
Father's Death
His father, James Roosevelt died in 1900 when the dasha period
was Jupiter and the sub period of Venus, the 9th lord. In the
dwadashamsha (divisional chart for parents) Jupiter is the 7th
lord (maraka lord) aspecting the 9th house, and Venus is the
9th lord.
Mother's Death
His mother died in 1941 in the mahadasha of Mercury in the 7th
house of the dwadashamsha and in the antardasha of Saturn. Saturn
is with the 4th lord, Jupiter, in the 8th house in the natal
chart and is in the lagna in the dwadashamsha. Mercury is also
the 4th lord from the Moon in the Gemini in the natal chart.

Marriage
He was married on Mar 17, 1905, in the mahadasha of Jupiter
the 7th lord (from lagna and the Moon), the antardasha of Rahu
and the pratyantar dasha of Ketu. The transit of planets on
the day of marriage also confirm it. The points worth seeing
are: the lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th house. Saturn is aspecting
the 7th lord Jupiter in the 8th house. (Jupiter is also transiting
over natal Jupiter, the 7th lord, forming the double transit
of Jupiter/Saturn on the 7th lord. Jupiter's transit is especially
important because it is the mahadasha lord). The Moon is transiting
in the 7th house of the navamsha.

Children
He had six children, one daughter and four sons all born
between 1906 and 1914 in the dasha of Saturn, his 5th lord.
The last child was born in the antardasha of the Sun in the
5th house. (Saturn is also in the 5th house in the Saptamsha
chart). All these confirm the correctness of the horoscope being
used.

Education
The 5th lord Saturn with Jupiter
in the sign of Mars gave him education in political history
and law. The 5th lord being in the 8th house meant that his
performance was from ordinary to good, never brilliant, failing
also in two courses.
Naval Connection
Mars and Moon in the 10th house represent army and water
combining which we get navy. FDR was Assistant Secretary to
the Navy for a full seven years from 1913 to 1920.
It is therefore clear that for four or more decades some
astrologers have been using the wrong horoscope for FDR perhaps,
and discussing the rajayogas etc. as stuff for pseudo-research
articles. The only way astrologers can help each other is to
cross check all the information they get, and see if the information
fits into the horoscope and dasha scheme. Some stray event also
sometimes helps us verify a horoscope. But the scientific method
is to verify events relating to education, marriage, parents,
particularly their death, which will show the accuracy of the
horoscope. Often, it has been found that while the lagna is
correct, its degrees and consequently the dashas are wrong.
The safest course in such a situation is to use the rashi dasha
of Jaimini and do a cross check. The chances of Jaimini's karakas
changing are minimum in such cases.
It will not be the first time and it will not be the last time
that astrologers will be using the wrong horoscopes of important
persons because we do not get their correct birth time. Yet,
here we cannot ignore the recorded birth time. Then the verification
of events done should convince us that it had to be Virgo lagna
only.
*Mrityubhaga: There are 132 sensitive points for different
planets and lagna which can cause from mild sickness to fatality
if a planet or the lagna is near it, not necessarily exactly
on that degree.
