In the last few articles we've talked about the controversy
amongst Vedic astrologers regarding which house governs education.
K.N. Rao and his teachers at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school
in New Delhi, India teach that the 5th house is the primary
house of education. This is also what the sage Parashara emphasized.
The 5th house governs non-compulsory education or college-level
education. When there is the element of choice involved then
it's the 5th house. Compulsory education or Kindergarten-12th
grade education is the 4th house. This represents our educational
foundation. The other houses of education: the 2nd, 3rd and
9th represent informal education at home, hobbies and trade
schools, and higher education respectively.
Col. A.K. Gour, a senior teacher at K.N Rao's school, gives
the most importance to the 2nd, 4th and 5th houses for education.
in his excellent book, The Astrology of Professions,
he says, "If one was to holistically view these three
houses, 10-15% of education would go to the 2nd house, 25-30%
would go to the 4th house, and the 5th or primary house would
get 55-60% share.
