An Example of Sudden Change of Home

 Vedic Astrology Diary Archives

By Vaughn Paul Manley, M.A.

In Vedic astrology undesirable change in our lives is generally represented by the influences of the malefic planets, Saturn, Mars, Rahu, or Ketu (secondarily the Sun), and the malefic or dusthana houses 6, 8, or 12.

The following chart is of a woman who recently was told by her landlord that she and her husband would have to move. This certainly represented undesirable change since she and her husband had been very comfortable and happy there. It can be a difficult prospect to find a new home and then make the move during the holiday season, which is what they were now facing.

She is in her Saturn-Mercury dasha. Saturn is and a malefic planet, and is the 4th lord of home for Scorpio lagna. Mercury is the 8th lord, and aspected by two malefics, Saturn and Mars, with Mars also being the 6th lord. Mercury is also the 8th lord from the Moon. The 8th lord represents sudden change, (see my article Gifts of the 8th house) and being aspected by malefic planets make undesirable sudden change even more likely. From the dasha lagna, Saturn, Mercury becomes the 4th lord aspected by two malefics. Her sub sub period lord is Venus, the 12th lord, another dusthana lord representing loss, further reinforces the potential for undesirable change.

You'll notice that Mercury is also the 11th lord from the ascendant, conjunct with the Sun, the 10th lord. Mars aspecting the Sun forms a raja yoga, between the 10th and 1st lord. Mercury benefits by association in this yoga, which is confirmed by the fact that she says she is in a 'her dream job' and in a very secure position. So a career change is not the issue.

If we look further as this issue of sudden move in the navamsha chart, then we see that Mercury is again aspected by Mars, the 4th lord from the 8th house.

If we go a step further and look at the Chaturtamsha chart, the 4th divisional chart related to 4th house matters, then we again see that Mercury is with the 4th lord, Sun, and aspected by Saturn and the 12th lord, Mars.

Taking these malefic influences as a whole, we see a pattern representing the possibility of sudden change in the area of home. Perhaps the most important of these influences is simply that Mercury, the sub dasha lord, is the 8th lord of sudden change aspected by two malefics, in the natal chart.

However, the trigger for the event can be more specifically seen by the transits involving the 4th lord, the 4th house, and the significator of the 4th house, the Moon. On December 1st, the day she received the notice from her landlord, Saturn, the 4th lord, was at 1 degree Leo opposite her Moon, at 2 degrees Aquarius. Furthermore, Mars, the 6th lord, was at 3 degrees Scorpio again closely aspecting the Moon in Aquarius.

The combined influence of both the dashas and transits represent the precipitation of the event of a sudden change of home.
