Namaste Friends,
In Vedic astrology there are hundreds of yogas or planetary combinations that are very helpful to learn. Some are rare and optional to learn, while others you will come across frequently and should definitely learn. Without knowing them you may not be able to understand a chart because they sometimes defy logic. The vasumati yoga or vasumat yoga is one example of this kind of yoga. Vasumat means 'wealthy' or 'rich' in Sanskrit. It is a type of dhana yoga or wealthy producing yoga. The classic text, Phaladeepika, describes it by saying:
When all the auspicious planets are posited in upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) whether reckoned from the ascendant or the Moon, the resulting yoga is called Vasumat. If in any nativity the Vasumat Yoga is formed then the native concerned will confine himself to his house and be wealthy. Phaladeepika ch 6. verse 20, 21.
The 11th house is well known as a house of wealth, but not the 3rd, 6th, or 10th. Combinations of these houses do not form dhana yogas. However, the vasumati yoga is an exception.
Here's an example of a Vasumati Yoga from chandra lagna or the Moon ascendant.

Our Vedic astrology chart reveals not only our own personal karma but the karma of significant people in our lives, like our parents, siblings, spouses etc. For instance, the Moon and the 4th house represent the mother, while the Sun, and the 9th and 10th houses represent the father. Between the 9th and 10th houses for father I give the 10th house more weight because it is the 7th house (spouse) from the 4th house (mother).
It's interesting to see the charts of the children of famous people and identify the famous parent. Yesterday, the media gave us a great opportunity to do just that when it was announced that the wives of pro basketball stars Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal coincidentally gave birth to daughters at almost the exact time (but in different time zones). Yahoo Sports said, "Just like old times, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal are celebrating. The former [Los Angeles] Lakers teammates became fathers again Monday when their wives gave birth to girls six minutes apart." The birth of Kobe's daughter came just hours after his superstar performance where he made the game winning shot in the final seconds of play. "The arrival of our new daughter Gianna early this morning is such an incredible blessing for me and my family," Bryant said in a statement. "We are all full of beautiful emotions after such an incredible day."
