A Vedic View on the Harmonic Concordance - Nov 8, 2003
Namaste friends!
Today, November 8th, is the day many people are hearing about as the Harmonic Concordance (as opposed to the Harmonic Convergence of Aug 17, 1987 prophesied by the Mayans) which is a rare planetary configuration that in the Western astrology circular chart forms a 6 pointed star of David (two triangles one pointing up and the other down). It culminates today on the partial Lunar eclipse at 8:14pm EST.

In Western astrology this configuration involves Saturn, Juipiter, Sun, Chiron, Mars, Moon, and the North and South Nodes which are placed 60 degrees or in almost perfect sextile positions from one another. It's really beautiful to look at because sextile positions like trines are fluid and harmonious relationships between planets.

Here's a Vedic viewpoint. On the technical side the Vedic system, of course, uses a square chart style that doesn't draw lines to form images so you can't see the Star of David. It's really a lot more boring in this sense. The other difference is that the Vedic system doesn't recognize Chiron, since it was just recently discovered, which is a pivotal player in the whole configuration. The other difference is, of course, that the Vedic uses a sidereal zodiac which subtracts 23 degrees from the Western positions, thus putting the planets in different signs 75% of the time.

In Vedic astrology sextile relationships are partial, not full aspects but that are harmonious because of being in harmonious elements. For instance, Air and Fire signs vs. Earth and Water signs.

The significant thing is that it's a lunar eclipse. The configurations at the eclipse are important because they leave an impression or imprint in the atmosphere for 6 months until the next eclipse. It sets the collective tone - and this is an outrageously harmonious tone particularly between the malefic planets since every malefic planet is involved in the configuration (excluding the outer planets). This is really good news.

My sense is that this event is leaving a very positive mark on the collective consciousness, opening up the possibility for greater harmony on many levels. On the interpersonal level this will be a turning point in people's relationships freeing up old blocks and paving the way for more healing. Not a bad thing to have happen especially when the media doesn't seem to peddling the positive.

On a personal level I believe that where individuals have felt blocks in the past will begin experiencing breakthroughs and will therefore begin to reach new levels and manifest more of their Divine purpose/potential. This is an extremely positive event.

Transits of Rahu & Ketu - till Feb 22, 2005
Here's the least you need to know about the transits of Rahu and Ketu (North and South Nodes of the Moon) between now and Feb 22, 2005.

Rahu and Ketu, the Nodes of the Moon, take about 19 months to transit through a sign, and will be in Aries and Libra respectively until 2/22/05. They're unique in that they're always transiting retrograde, indicating karma from previous lives. Rahu & Ketu are the mysterious unseen points in space that cause the eclipses. They're not technically planets but they're influence is so significant that they're given the status of planets.

In terms of transits they are next in importance to Jupiter and Saturn. These four make up the slowest moving planets, and therefore, the one's that we need to pay the most attention to by transit.

Rahu is extroverted, affirming, and ambitious, while Ketu is introverted, negating and detached. Rahu's transits show where someone will likely want to expand, be driven, try new things, and disperse their energy into materialistic pursuits. Ketu's transits show where someone will likely experience restriction, detachment, completion, or focus and deepen their spiritual pursuits.

Here's a beginning list of indications of Rahu/Ketu's transit based on your rising sign or ascendant.

(Aries) Rahu 1st/Ketu 7th - Rahu will help you be more assertive, ambitious and out going. Ketu will help you be more detached in your relationships and perhaps complete or resolve one in which you feel disappointed.

Newsclip: Surgeries In Delhi Scheduled by Astrology
A special thanks to Kiwi who posted this interesting article from the Hindustan Times on our Discussion Boards.

It may not have occured to you to use astrology to try to schedule your next splendid dicing of delectables with with your dear surgeon (sorry, just couldn't help myself with that line. I'm an old Monty Python fan). Makes jolly good sense if you think about it.

I've heard, for instance, that it's common knowledge among many surgeons, even in the US, that people tend to bleed more on the full Moon, just like how the tides swell due to the Lunar gravitational pull. It's no occult secret really, most probably learn of it just from keen obervation. So generally, the new Moon is always best for surgery.

Farmers also have known for centuries that crops are healthier when planted according to the phases of the Moon. For instance, transplanting seedlings is best during the full Moon when roots get the most moisture and root growth stimulation. Again, a lot of keen observation probably led to these methods being developed.

In India, important events have been timed using astrology for millenium.

NEW DELHI, INDIA, October 27, 2003: Many people in Delhi consult astrologers to decide the day, date and time of a surgery in the family. Paediatric cardiologist Dr. Vikas Kohli says he "gets such requests all the time." "The parents want the surgery to be over by,
say, before 9 a.m. on October 29. They had consulted an astrologer, who poured over astrological permutations and gave them that particular date and time," says Dr. Kohli. Chief of invasive and interventional cardiology, Dr. Ashok Seth, says families set time-limits for surgeries for they believe that the patient will recover fast. The dependence on planetary positions is not restricted to cardiac surgeries alone. General surgeon Dr.Vinay Sabharwal, too, gets the same kind of requests. Doctors are not ready to pass value judgements over such requests and try to accommodate them as best they can and only if the patient's medical condition permits. "If the condition worsens and the operation needs to be done earlier, we overrule the request," Dr. Seth
says.
